Who is Dark Rooms for?
Dark Rooms is for players who like horror and dungeon crawling rather than building. If you enjoy going room by room, not knowing what is behind the next door, and coming back stronger each time, it is made for you. It leans on tension and atmosphere, so it suits players who want to be unsettled.
What do you actually do in Dark Rooms?
You descend through five floors, exploring room after room and fighting what you find. Every room gains you XP, and the merchant NPCs Bob and Tomy sell upgrades between fights. Every 5 levels you unlock a power token, so you get steadily stronger as you go deeper, all the way to the final nightmare.
How long does it take, and is it worth replaying?
There is a clear goal, reaching the final nightmare at the bottom of the fifth floor, so a run has an ending. Getting there is not the same twice: on most floors the rooms are generated as you play, so the layout keeps shifting around you as you move from one room to the next, and the upgrades you buy change how a run plays out. Most players go back down to try a different build.
Is this a world or an add-on?
It is a world. You download it and play on it as its own map, so it does not go into a world you already have. An add-on goes into your world, a world does not. You will need Minecraft Bedrock 1.16 or later.
How scary is it, and is it suitable for younger players?
It is a horror world and it is built to unsettle you: dark corridors, rooms you cannot predict and a descent that gets heavier floor by floor. There is no gore, it works on atmosphere and tension rather than shock, but younger or more sensitive players may find it too much. If that is a concern, one of our lighter worlds is a safer pick.
Can I play it with friends?
Yes, you can play Dark Rooms on your own or with others, the same way you would share any Bedrock world. Going down together changes the mood a lot, and splitting up to cover more rooms is its own kind of risk.
Which platforms does it work on, and how do I get it?
Dark Rooms is on the Minecraft Marketplace for 660 Minecoins, and works on Windows, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, iOS and Android. It is a one-time purchase and we keep updating our worlds, so future updates are included.
Dark Rooms or Sky Quest, which one should I pick?
Both are built adventures rather than sandboxes, but they feel nothing alike. Dark Rooms is horror: you descend five floors, room by room, and the tension is the point.
Sky Quest is a quest adventure with islanders to talk to, puzzles to solve and a story to follow. Pick Dark Rooms to be unsettled, Sky Quest to be told a story.
